The inaugural SportPesa Super 8 League kicked off on Sunday 7, at Camp Toyoyo,Nairobi with a match between Jericho All Stars and Melta Kibiria.
Host All Stars humiliated Melta Kibiria 4-0 to take an early lead in the 16-team league, played on home and away basis.
Earlier at the same venue, Rongai All Stars thrashed Angola FC 7-1 in a Division 1 tie, which served as a curtain raiser for the main league clash.
Melta paid heavily for numerous missed scoring chances in the opening exchanges of the match, allowing All Stars to regroup and hit them hard.
Musa Dalton in particular failed to compose himself in front of goal, and was denied on numerous occasions by All Star keeper Anthony Obonyo – he also hit the cross bar in the 18th minute.
Same goes to Evans Vurugu who could only gift the keeper with easy saves.
All Stars were very quick on the break, with Kevin Ndunya and Walerah Victor combination troubling Melta defense constantly.
Kevin pulled a magical solo run from the left, dancing past his markers before unleashing a right foot stinging shot past Melta keeper Odhiambo Collins, for the opener in the 38th minute.
Eddie Kuria doubled the lead within two minutes of added time, giving the Makadara outfit a comfortable lead heading into half time.
On restart, Stars made sure the three points were well kept and the game pushed beyond the visitors, when Walerah Victor hit the third in the 46th minute.
Victor grabbed a brace in the 68th minute, extending his right foot to push the ball into net past advancing Melta keeper.
Melta were reduced to ten men in the 72nd minute after Dalton Musa recieved his marching orders for second bookable offense.
Stars enjoyed more ball possession therefore, but they failed to fully take advantage of their numerical strength as no more goals were scored.
The league continues on Wednesday.
