SuperSport United were held to  0-0 in an Absa Premiership match at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday .

The match started on  a slow pace, but it was the Citizens, who showed early intent  through their fiery  winger Craig Martin eight minutes into the game.

The hosts grew in confidence as the game progressed and they came very close to breaking the deadlock in the 18th minute.

Martin hit the upright with a powerful shot with the Supersport United  defence exposed and Taariq Fielies fired over the crossbar from the rebound.

Matsatsantsa tried to  push forward in the 25th minute and Evans Rusike unleashed a shot which was easily saved by City goalkeeper Sage Stephens.

Thabo Nodada’s effort narrowly missed the target nine minutes before the halftime break.

SuperSport United pushed harder and at the breather both teams were tied  at  0-0

City coach Benni McCarthy made a change at the beginning of the second-half with Lyle Lakay replacing Nodada.

Former SuperSport winger Lakay tried to make an immediate impact, but he missed the target with a long-range shot in the 56th minute.

The visitors then took control of the game and they nearly took the lead after the hour-mark.

Supersport’s Aubrey Modiba starred on in disbelief as his cut crossing  curling effort was finger-tipped over the crossbar by Stephens in the Citizens goal
