A Switzerland company, Infront Sports and Media might be the next broadcasters of the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League.
The company is reported to have approached Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) in a bid to take over the rights from SuperSport, whose contract with the PSL expired at the end of 2017.
Zimbabwe football boss Philip Chiyangwa has confirmed that his organization has been approached by the Swiss media giants and they are keenly studying the proposal.
“Infront Sports and Media is one of the companies that have expressed interest in taking over the broadcast rights of our football,” he said as reported by Daily News.
“We are not only looking at the topflight but we also want to have something for the Division Ones, as well as the national teams.”
Econet Media owned Kwese TV were rumored to be in a better position to acquire the rights but the Zimbabwean media giant issued a statement on Monday saying they will not be making a bid.
“Our attention has been drawn to various reports linking Kwese TV, an entity of Econet Media, to bids for Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League (PSL) television Rights,”reads part of the statement.
“Econet Media wishes to make it clear that it has not submitted any bids nor entered into any negotiations for the said Rights and does not plan to do so now or in the near future.”
The PSL board of governors invited tenders from broadcasters interested in acquiring its broadcast rights in December last year. Tendering process is still on and closes next week.
