Former Taifa Stars skipper Haroub Nadir has explained his decision to quit the national side, saying it is not because of the new skipper Mbwana Samatta getting the job but the manner in which he got to learn about the development.
The Yanga Captain clarified that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the African Player of the year based in Africa being the skipper of Tanzania, and that he is very much at home with it because he deserves it, his only point of departure with Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) is learning about it through the media.
He claims apart from watching on TV and reading about it through the media, there was no official communication from the federation about the change of guard, adding that that was not the case for his predecessors Salumu Swed and Shadrack Nsajigwa who were duly informed and accorded the respect they deserved.
The defender said he still could still offer four years of service to his country but he has chosen to retire because he doesn’t feel needed.
“I still had the push to serve Taifa Stars for four more years, I have done it for the past ten years, I’m a patriot and I love my country. But the act of stripping me off the captaincy on TV has humiliated me,” Haroub said.
“I’ve not resigned because I have lost the captaincy to Mbwana Samatta no, what has infuriated me most is the manner in which this was done. I didn’t expect to learn about it while seated down watching a match between Simba and Mtibwa Sugar during the Mapinduzi Cup,”
“It should have been better for the coach (Boniface Mkwasa) to call me and sit me down then break the news. We said bye to Salumu Swed in Mwanza, and the same to my predicessor Shadrack Nsajigwa, but for me they have shown me disrespect,”
Three days after being crown the best African player based in Africa, Taifa Stars Coach Boniface Mkwasa declared the golden boy Mbwana Samatta the captain of the team, while he was in Zanzibar following Mapinduzi Cup.
