After dismissing several key players led by former Gor Mahia striker Dan Sserunkuma,Tanzania glamour club Simba Sports club has parted ways with their Serbian born coach Goran Kopunovic.
The besieged coach who joined Simba six months ago, was officially relieved of his duties on Wednesday, barely few days after guiding the Msimbazi Street team to the third position in the Tanzanian Mainland Premier League.
Simba registration committee chairman Zacharia Hanspoppe was quoted by Tanzania’s Citizen Daily praising the Serbia for his great contribution t the club but regretted the kind of money he was asking was far much beyond their financial means.
“ We are thankful to Kopunovic. He is a good coach and we are thankful for all the contributions he has made to our club. However, at this time, we feel we need a fresh face and voice moving forward to lead our team,” he noted.
Kopunovic was named Simba’s head coach six month ago, replacing Zambian Patrick Phiri, who was fired after seven or so months in charge of the Msimbazi Reds.
Hanspoppe said they were forced to sack Kopunopvic following his demands that they (Simba) must pay him $50,000 (approximately Ksh4,800,000m) before renewing his contract.
Assistant coach Seleman Matola has been picked to take charge of the team as they shop for another coach.
