Mbwana Samatta scored the only goal of the game as Tanzania secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Chad at the Stade Omnisports Idriss Mahamat Ouya in N’Djamena on Wednesday.
Victory moves the Taifa Stars level on points with Nigeria in Group G. The Super Eagles host Egypt in Kaduna on Friday.
Eager to build on their goalless draw against Nigeria in September of last year, Tanzania started well and opened the scoring on the half-hour mark through Genk forward Samatta – the former TP Mazembe ace with the countries first goal of the campaign.
Chad had their chances, but Tanzania held on for all three points with captain Samatta netting the decisive goal.
The reverse fixture is scheduled for the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Monday.S
