Tanzania Football Federation TFF has called on fans of Yanga and Simba to stay away from politics during the match between the two teams on Saturday at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
A spokesman for the Federation Kizuguto Baraka who was speaking to journalists at the headquarters of the federation at the Karume Stadium in Dar es Salaam, insisted that they like football officials are not affiliated to any political side.
Yanga have been linked to the ruling party CCM because of the color of their shirt which is green and yellow.
In the Afcon qualifier pitting Tanzania and Nigeria, the political rivalry reared its ugly head when politician January Makamba of the CCM offered to pay entrace fees for fans to enter the stadium and sparking political emotions between fans of the ruling party and the opposition.
“We ask the fans who will come to the stadium they should avoid politics in the game on Saturday let them enjoy the game peacefully ,” said Kizuguto.
Tanzania will have their elections in October in which two prominent politicians Lowasa from the Ukawa party will be fighting it out with Mangufuli of the CCM Party.
Apart from the political issue, TFF says preparations for the match on Saturday has been completed and fans of Simba and Yanga have started arguing about who would emerge the winner.
In addition, TFF also announced ticket prices for the explosive game with the highest going for 30,000 Tanzanian Shillings followed by Tsh 20,000 and the minimum shall be Shs 7,000.The tickets will be on sale these starting at 8am on Saturday morning.
Veteran referee Isreal Congo from Dar es Salaam has been given the responsibility of officiating the historic match.
