South African premier soccer league (PSL) defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns on saturday thumped Orlando pirates 6 nil at the Loftus Versfeld stadium.
Pirates should have opened the scoring after two minutes, as Gift Motupa rounded Denis Onyango but failed to slot the ball in a wide open goal.
Sundowns also had their moment just minutes later but percy tau failed to score after be played on with a delicious through ball.
The Brazilians broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when Themba Zwane rifled the ball home from close range, after some good work by Khama Billiat.
Sundowns doubled their lead just before the break as Billiat registered his second assist by playing Tau, who slotted into the bottom corner. The match went to the break with Sundowns leading 2-0.
Sundowns started the second half on a high and 15 minutes later the pressure paid off as Pirates conceded a penalty in the 60th minute, Ricardo Nascimento stepped up and made converted the spot-kick, 3-0.
Sundowns the grabbed a fourth goal just over 10 minutes later as Thapelo Morena turned home Tiyani Mabunda’s low cross.
The Brazilians continued the onslaught in the 75th minute when Tau turned provider to tee up Morena for his second of the game.
Sundowns wrapped up the scoring in the 81st minute, when Billiat turned provider to tee up Percy Tau for the simple tap in and his second of the game, 6-0.
The game was then suspended after supporters invaded the pitch and the clash resumed after 18h00 but their were no changes to the scoreline.The scoreline is the biggest ever margin between the two teams.
