The Cecafa tournament came to Kenya and brought with it top talent from the region.Harambee Stars swept all before them.
Local club scouts were on the lookout for outstanding players for potential signings to beef up their squads ahead of the TPL start.Sofapaka,a club famous for signing and managing huge wage bills of foreign players, netted the Burundian duo of Abdulrazak Fiston and Celestine Habominana,if reports coming from flamboyant club president Elly Mboni Kalekwa were anything to go by.
Their fans were elated. As the club got their preseason training underway, the pair were with their national team at the CHAN
tourney in S.Africa.Burundi were knocked out in the group stages, and the two were expected to link up with Sofapaka, but were nowhere to be seen.
The duo briefly came to Kenya and their was rave reviews in the local dailies only for the duo to realize the stuck reality that all that glitters is not Gold Eyebrows were raised and Kalekwa was at pains to explain their absence.
It has since emerged that the club could not meet their demands.Sources indicate that they instead opted to sign for clubs in the DRC.Indeed the grass is not always greener on the other side.
There has been hue and cry from the playing unit who have been reportedly complaining about unpaid salaries and allowances with many vowing to walk out from the Batoto Ba Mungu team that won the Kenyan premier league in their debut in 2009.
