By Andrew Limo,
It’s a common fact in Kenya and East Africa seeing women do some “shocking” things to lure footballers.
The truth of the matter is that Kenyan women will do everything in their power “to have the glory of being with a footballer”
One lady who sort anonymity told soka25east “I’ve seen girls lift skirts up and put men’s hands underneath their skirts, while some will post skimpy photos on Instagram and facebook just to attract the vulnerable footballers who most of the time fall prey to such escapades.
In recent years, marrying a footballer in Kenya has become highly aspirational for many young women as survey confirm football is seen as a career option by the minority and that many girls can name more wives and girlfriends of footballers than female politicians.
When it comes to the appeal of marrying a footballer, the short answer most ladies will tell you is definitely is the money and the fame of being seen in the pitch and recognized by the media but the problem is that most of this relationships are short term once the player is down in his career and rarely gets matches the ladies certainly run away off to the hands of yet another footballer who seems to be the big name in the media.
It is alarming to see what happens around our stadiums with ladies literally “camping” outside changing rooms of players with intentions to lure them to escapades and introduce their friends to ensure they get the maximum fame.
One football official who sort anonymity told soka25east.com “For me the most shocking thing is how these women act around these footballers somethings are very disappointing. How do you explain one lady going round with different footballers behind their backs this can easily lead to the spread of H.I,V to so many players,” the official says.
On fan offers an explanation for why women might behave in such a way.”Particularly in Kenya , we sexualise women,” she says.
“We see them as sexual objects, sexual toys and maybe when we’re seen like that, women begin to behave like that.”
The sad part is some footballers marriages are on the rocks after they were lured by the groupies into submission.Nowadays you see the numbers of footballers followers in Kenya grow exponentially and most of the time it’s the ladies who like and comment on every post they have on face book or instagram.
Again its not wrong to marry a footballer but the thing is that how many of this marriages are build in the true essence rather than infatuation, fame and money involved? The big question is what happens when the fame evaporates and the money nolonger comes in as expected ?Sorry but the reality is that you find the same ladies running to other footballers to try and get what they just lost from the previous footballer.
Its important that footballers in Kenya must be cautious to avoid being caught up in the new trend which definitely only lasts as long as the fame remains intact .
Many ladies are genuine football fans but most will definitely come to the stadiums with alterior motives to get their hands on the famous footballers who have become a hot cake in Kenyan football making some even forget about their existing marriages.
