The ‘SMALL’ Sony Awendo Issue

By Francis Okello Ngira,

They say history has a way of repeating itself and the future is oftenly determined by how we learn about and from the past. In 2013 when Gor Mahia played Sony Sugar F.C at their home ground, Awendo green stadium, the match was marred with chaos that led to pitch invasion hence it’s premature end. Though controversial,  Gor were awarded the points and that was juicy information to the fans.

Today we are faced by another controversy, this time round between the same Sony Sugar F.C and AFC Leopards over a reverted walkover decision awarded to the latter for Sony’s alleged failure to honour a match that was initially supposed to be played in Awendo then shifted to Afraha in Nakuru for security reasons.

The federation has moved in to legitimise the three points and two goals awarded to AFC Leopards hence creating confusion galore in the terrace; it’s this time round a legal language to the thousands of the ingwe family and illegal to the south nyanza fans. This confusion as to who runs the league and or issues punitive measures is not new in the Kenyan sport.

We just recently saw a retaliation by the fans over a first leg issue swept under the carpet when AFC Leopards played Muhoroni youth at Nyayo; the Youth from Muhoroni were not allowed the usual 24hrs window period to accept or decline the ‘salt bucket challenge’, it is as funny as it is serious because if this is not duly addressed, the next challenge could be worse than an acid bucket.

‘Mummy and Daddy’, who is in charge of this house that is Kenyan football? Could you please try fight in your bedroom, make up, then next morning eat breakfast with us and drop us in school? Do it coz you owe it to the young footballers.
