Uganda Cranes midfield general Tony Mawejje has agreed terms to join Vietnam Super League side Long An on a year-long deal.

Mawejje, 26, previously turned out for Iceland topflight outfit Knattspyrnufélagið Þróttur, before recently joining second tier side Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja.

He has been a core part of the Cranes formation and was part of the squad which represented the country at this year’s AFCON in Gabon.

According to his agent, the former KCCA man is seeking more play time in Vietnam in readiness for August trials at Turkish side Besiktas.

Since 2004 when he first earned his national team cap, Mawejje has played 68 international matches, scoring 8 goals.

In Vietnam, Mawejje joins other Uganda Cranes teammates Moses Oloya and Geofrey ‘Baba’ Kizito who feature for Hà Nội T&T and Than Quảng Ninh respectively.
