The second leg of Kenyan Premier League Top 8 Knockout Tournament takes place tomorrow (Wednesday 4) with two breathtaking fixtures lined up at the Nyayo National Stadium,Nairobi.
South Nyanza based Sony Sugar FC hosts Sofapaka in the first duel at 4:15PM before KPL champions Gor Mahia invites defending champions of the cup Tusker FC in the second tie at 7:15PM.
Both matches ended in 2-2 draws in the first stanza played in Nakuru on the weekend of 17th and 18th October handing Sony and Gor slight advantage over their respective opponents heading into the second leg as they boast two away goals each.
The show stopper will definitely be the second match matching the two giants of Kenyan football; while Gor will be hunting for more glory after bagging the league gong for the third time in a row, Tusker on the other on hand will be fighting tooth and nail not to end the 2015 season without a silverware and more so not to let go of the trophy they defended last season.
Tusker knocked out K’Ogalo at the same stage last season a feat stand in Coach Leonard Odipo would be more than glad to repeat tomorrow only that this round they will be facing a different Gor. The Frank Nuttall men have been sensational throughout the season and should have finished the business in the first leg but defensive lapse at the back proved costly as they allowed the Brewers back in contention with Eugene Asike’s late equalizer.
The makeshift back line which evidently missed regulars Karim Nzigiyimana and Abouba Sibomana cracked under pressure to let in Jesse Were and Eugine Asike goals. Gor Mahia goals came from Ali Abondo and Meddie Kagere penalty.
This will be the fourth meeting between the two heavyweights this year – Gor boasts a double win over Tusker in the league with identical 1-0 score line, a result they will draw inspiration from in the Wednesday tie.
The aggregate winners will play in the final slated for Saturday 7 at Kisumu’s Moi Stadium.
