Muhoroni Youth-Gor mahia
The biggest match of the openings- round will be between Debutants Muhoroni Youth who are the surprise package of the league this season, unbeaten in the Last 12 matches dating to April this year, will be facing other undefeated side and the 2015 KPl champions in the Might Gor mahia who will be looking to end the season in a high as the aim to achieve the treble
Muhoroni Youth have been a revelation since Francis Baraza was replaced by Paul Nkata, imagine a team rising from the relegation zone to fourth position in the league, they indeed counting on their impressive recent form to beat league champions Gor Mahia on Saturday at Moi Stadium and advance further in the competition.
PREDICTION: Muhoroni Youth 0- 2 Gor mahia.
AFC leopard -Tusker
Francis Kimanzi’s inconsistent Tusker which beat Ingwe to the title in Meru last season are also seeking for a single flower to decorate their otherwise gloomy season, and the Top 8 offers the Brewers such an opportunity. AFC Leopards is set to miss up to five key players on Sunday when they face Tusker FC, It remains to be seen, if the Leopards can overcome them seasonal problems and impress their fans with at least a trophy this season. But that would be much to ask playing against the defending champion without Key players Bernard Mang’oli, wingers Timonah Wanyonyi and Khalid Jumaan, as well as striker Michael Khamati and defender Solomon Nasio who are nursing injuries with be an uphill task.
We have a close match to call, Tusker playing a Leopards side which is just the same, winning when unexpected, losing when they are favorites.
PREDICTION: AFC leopard1 – 3 Tusker
Sofapaka – Chemelil.
Both teams are struggling to make an impact this season after dismal performance in the league, with Chemelil Sugar fighting to evade relegation while Sofapaka are hoping to at least save the season by winning KPL Top 8 tournament after bowing out of FKF Cup and the league respectively.
Sofapaka were bundled out of FKF GOtv Shield Cup by Administration Police, The departure of experienced coach Sam Timbe is a blow to Elly Kalekwa’s side that are facing unpredictable Chemelil in the competition’s opener.
For Chemelil Sugar, they just have to get their priorities right. They are currently rooted in the relegation zone, in thirteenth position with 27 points, and they have four matches to save themselves. It may seem somewhat incongruous that they are simultaneously taking part in the Top 8 competition.
PREDICTION: Sofapaka 2-1 Chemelil
Ulinzi Stars- Sony sugar
The team under Babu Salim has registered impressive results. One loss in eight outings underlines their improvement and two wins, depending on their rivals’ results, would definitely guarantee their survival in the top tier next season.
Ulinzi Stars have failed to reach the last four twice consecutively in the KPL Top 8 Cup; Ulinzi Stars have their eyes set on reclaiming the title they won in its inaugural edition in 2011. Last season, Ulinzi bowed out after losing 2-1 to Kenya Commercial Bank at the first hurdle, same as the preceding season where they lost on penalties to then defending champions Gor Mahia.
They stand a chance of progressing against tricky Sony side, but they will need to sharpen their striking force to stand a chance of winning the competition.
PREDICTION: Ulinzi Stars 2-1 Sony sugar
