Sony Sugar FC has booked a spot in the semis of this year’s Kenyan Premier League Top 8 Tournament after shooting down Ulinzi Stars 5-4 on post match penalties, in a match played at the Afraha Stadium on Sunday 27.
The highly physical match which saw Sony’s Hamid Kwizera receive his matching orders for second bookable offense ended one all at the blow of the final whistle, and hence proceeding to the dreaded spot kicks.
Earlier, Marwa Chamberi dribbled past Ulinzi defense to unleash a left foot shot past keeper Francis Ochieng’ to put Sony in the lead early in the second half but the sending off of Kwizera in the 72nd minute destabilized their play allowing Ulinzi to equalize deep into the second half via Oscar Wamalwa header.
Sony keeper Allan Owiny who was guilty of making a schoolboy mistake which resulted into the corner kick that Wamalwa converted for the equalizer redeemed himself by saving Mohammed Hassan’s spot kick, giving the millers the much needed confidence in their remaining penalty kicks.
Osacar Wamalwa, Enos Ochieng, Rodgers Omondi and keeper Francis Ochieng’ all scored their penalties for Ulinzi while, Sylvester Wanyama, Victor Ayugi, Asembeka, Charles Bruno and Robert Omonuk scored for Sony.
Sony joins Gor Mahia and Sofapaka in the round of four.
