Township Rollers are the Botswana champions on the bounce after beating Black Forest 2-0 at the National Stadium on Saturday and their closest challengers Galaxy lost 3-1 to Gaborone United.
Goals from Simisami Mathumo and Maano Ditshup sealed the three invaluable points – pushing the blues five points clear at the top with one round of matches to the conclusion of the 2016/17 season.
Head coach Mogomotsi “Teenage” Mpote was delighted to have guided Rollers to their 14th league title – becoming the first Motswana to lift the topflight since Police XI’s Sthandwa Mogwadi in 2006.
Mpote expressed confidence in local coaches to excel if given chance. He thanked his charges for heeding his instructions and for the hard work they put throughout the campaign.
“Botswana coaches are capable as long as we are given the chance we will keep on learning and improving.
“I thank my boys for the respect they have given me and the hard work they put throughout the season.
“Today I told them to take control of the ball, and we did that, we had the possession, we did not give Forest control of the midfield and we created chances early on. I am delighted for everyone at the club,” Mpote said.
Rollers will again fly the country’s flag at next year’s CAF Champions League.
