Despite TP Mazembe scoring first, Mouloundia Olympique de Bejai failed to use their home advantage as they drew 1-1 in the CAF Confederation Cup final first leg at Stade Mustapha Tchaker El Bouleïda in Blida on Saturday night.
The visitors netted through Jonathan Bolingi’s penalty strike, whilst Faouzi Yaya scored in the second stanza.
It was Yacine Athmani who threatened to find an early goal with a long range shot, but it went straight into the goalkeeper Sylvain Gbohouo’s hands in the third minute.
Although both sides tried to find the back of the net towards the 30th minute mark, it was the visitors who exerted pressure on their hosts.
With two minutes to the interval, the visitors netted their first goal through Bolingi from a penalty spot. It was 1-0 at the interval for Hubert Velud’s Ravens.
However, in their return from the tunnel, Bejaia’s skipper Yaya pulled one back for the hosts in the 66th minute.
Despite making strides to kill the game, the Crabs couldn’t find their way to score a winner in the tie as they now wait for the second leg.
The highly anticipated second leg will be staged on Sunday, November 06 at Stade du TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi to determine a winner.
