The mighty TP Mazembe edged rivals AS Vita 1-0 to lift the 2016/17 DRC league title for the second season on the bounce in Kamalondi, Lubumbashi Wednesday.

Ghanaian forward Daniel Adjei scored early in the opening minutes to settle the tie and hand the Ravens their 16th title before a fully packed Stade Mazembe Stadium.

Heading into the hotly contested clash, the teams were joint top of the 7-team playoffs standings on thirty points, and were only separated on goal difference.

A win for any could have secured the title, however, even a draw would have been enough to hand Mazembe the title as they enjoyed a superior goal difference.

Vita, who failed to rise to the occasion, finish second and will have to wait for another season to challenge for a 13th title. Nonetheless, the Kinshasa based side sealed a slot in next year’s CAF Champions alongside Mazembe.

Another Kinshasa giants Daring Club Motema Pembe who finished third will represent the country in the CAF Confederations Cup.

Motema Pembe’s Tulenge finish league’s top scorer on 18 goals, with Etekiama Agiti of Vita and Ben Malongo of Mazembe coming second on 17 goals apiece.
