TP Mazembe qualify for CAF CL Quarter-finals knocking out Pyramids

TP Mazembe qualified for the CAF Champions league Quarter-finals after beating Egyptian side Pyramids 3-0 in Lumbubashi.

Pyramids failed to maintain their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the tournament for the first time, after suffering their third loss in the group stage and freezing their tally at four points at the bottom of the group.

Pyramids, still searching for their first title in general, had to win on Saturday to revive their qualification hopes, and the match started strongly with Pyramids creating more chances.

However, Pyramids fell behind with a goal from Joël Beya after 32 minutes, and the first half ended with the hosts leading 2-0 as Glody Likonza added a second.

Pyramids failed to reduce the deficit in the second half before conceding the third goal from Patient Mwamba in the second minute of stoppage time for the game to end in a 3-0 defeat.

Moreover, the team only scored one goal through Fagrie Lakay in the group stage in five matches, while conceding six goals.

Pyramids FC had a promising start to the CAF Champions League group stage, securing a 1-0 win at home against TP Mazembe in the first round.

However, a disappointing defeat to FC Nouadhibou caused them to drop to third place. Their troubles persisted as they lost at home to Mamelodi Sundowns after a goalless draw in the third round.

As a result, Pyramids remain stuck at four points in the bottom of their group, while TP Mazembe’s tally rises to 10 points. Mamelodi Sundowns is second with 10 points and Nouadhibou is third with 4 points.
