Millers Chemelil FC have pulled a first in the just opened Kenyan Premier League transfer window, snatching highly rated new player of the year George Mandela and golden glove runner up Farouk Shikalo all from rivals in the “Awasi Derby”, Muhoroni Youth.
Mandela and Farouk were feted in the respective categories during the Footballer of Year Awards (FOYA) held on December 9,2015, and it was just a matter of time before bigger and better offers came knocking after hitting the limelight.
“The duo are with us; we have agreed on all details and both parties are satisfied. The offers are both permanent and long term,” A source within Chemelil told to Soka25east.com.
“The negotiations were tough especially for Mandela who had a running contract with Muhoroni, but we are glad the player wanted the new challenge. We look forward to completing the deals sooner.” He added.
Striker George Mandela played a pivotal role in Youth’s fairy tale run in the 2015 KPL – he emerged top scorer for the Awasi side with seven goals, one behind skipper Abass Akinyemi as they defied all odds to finish fifth, their best ever performance in Kenya’s big boys league. His exploits also earned him Sportpesa/SJAK player of the month of August accolade.
Farouk moved to Muhoroni in July on a six month loan deal from 10-time league champions Tusker FC. The youngster grew in stature during the shot stint under Ugandan Coach Paul Nkata who has since joined the Brewers – he managed to break into the first eleven, owning the number one jersey in place of seasoned David Kiptoo.
In another news, KCB’s Victor Majid could also be joining Chemelil soon, the player is currently training with the Francis Baraza’s side. The Bankers kissed the grass after 14 years in KPL and as expected they may lose players to top league sides.
