Younde is set to reap the benefits of the Africa Cup of Nations as the Cameroon goverment is in the process of purchasing new locomotives with a number of train stations set to receive a significant upgrade in order to cope with the event.
Tender to purchase nine locomotives has already been given to General Electric Africa Company Limited with the same company set to revamp the stations one year ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
In a press conference held on Saturday, the President General Electric Africa Jay Ireland said that they have held discussions with the Minister of Transport in Cameroon goverment Edgar Alain Mebe inorder to improve rail systems.
This is in line with his goverment commitment to provide spectators with a first class service.
“With regard to the railway, we look forward to the supply of nine locomotives for the Africa Cup of Nations. This will help carry the spectators to watch the matches. We are very pleased with the progress of the project, “said Jay Ireland.
General Electric has been present in Cameroon for six years, and is working on the development of its activities, notably in the sectors of electrical energy, water, health and transport. Some of these projects will be effective in the next two years ahead of AFCON 2019.
