Wayde Lekay scored a late equaliser to earn TS Galaxy a point in a 2-2 DStv Premiership draw against Cape Town City at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.
The result leaves the two clubs in 13th and ninth place on the 2021/22 league standings respectively with the Rockets now a point above the relegation zone.
The match got off to a flying start with two goals in the opening three minutes.
Mduduzi Mdantsane fired the visitors in front within the first minute of the match. Fagrie Lakay flicked a long-ball forward from Taariq Fielies into the path of the versatile midfielder who provided a thumping finish to get the Citizens off to the best possible start.
Galaxy hit back two minutes later with an eye-catching goal of their own as Mxolisi Macuphu continued his scoring streak against City. A quick counter-attack sent Mthobisi Mngomezulu through on goal and he unselfishly squared the ball to Macuphu who was left with an easy finish.
City restored their lead in the 62nd minute of the match. Vasilije Kolak failed to hold onto Lakay’s initial effort and the ball fell favourably for Mdantsane who made no mistake from close range.
But the Rockets never gave up and were rewarded when Marks Munyai burst into the box before finding Lekay at the back post who passed the ball into an empty net.
