By Agnes Amondi,
Kenya women’s football team Harambee Starlets crushed to a 5-0 defeat in the hands of Chile Women at the ongoing Alanya Gold City Cup on Saturday afternoon at the Starlight sport Complex.
Starlets head coach David Ouma had named an unchanged side to tackle José Letelier charges who also annihilated Ghana 3-0 in their opening fixture.
La Roja dominated proceedings from the start. Daniela Zamora orchestrated Chile’s first attack two minutes into the game but Paloma Lopéz couldn’t apply the finishing touch.
It didn’t take long before Chile hit the back of the net. Yessenia Lopéz gave Chile the lead in the ninth minute with Yanara Aedo the provider.
The South Americans did not relent. Mercurial midfielder Karen Araya breached Starlets defense in the 23rd after an exquisite control to double La Rojas tally.
After 34 dull minutes to game, Mwanahalima Adam provided a glimmer of hope for the David Ouma coached charges. She drew a save from the opponents skipper Christiane Endler after a tame shot in front of the PSG’s custodian posts to all but summarize their half.
Chile went into the break 2-0 up.Upon resumption, Chile kept the goal fest going. Ten minutes after resumption, Yanara Aedo turned in the ball for a third before Araya notched her brace in the hour mark.
Not even the Rachael Muema substition in the 62nd minute changed Starlets fortunes. Letelier charges were unperturbed.
López went in to score her second in the 83rd after waves of attack which had seen the Crossbar deny María José Urrutia in the 64th.
Kenya will play Ghana on Tuesday in their final match. Chile take on Northern Ireland B.
