All eyes this week will be on Wednesday’s 2017 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Inter-clubs competitions draw that will reveal Tusker FC and Ulinzi Stars path to the group stage of CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup respectively.
Both teams will be hoping for good draws to enable them reach luctrative stage in the new format that requires two wins in the first stage inorder to make it to group stage that will be contested by 16 teams instead of eight in each competition.
The changes were announced in May by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after a meeting at its headquarters in Cairo,Egypt.
Instead, “after the preliminary round, 32 teams will qualify for the last 16 round in both competitions. The winners of the last 16 round in the CAF Champions League, will after the drawing of lots, be divided into four groups of four teams each,” CAF said.
Tusker will be making their 12th appearance in their history with Ulinzi being their first time in Confederations Cup.
The first leg of the competitions will start between February 10-12 and second leg games a week later between 17-19 February 2017.
The winners from that first round will proceed to the next round to be played in two parts in dates exactly in March 2017.
Group stages will start in May and proceed in the month of June and July 2017. Quarterfinals, semis and finals are set for September, October and November, in that order.
