Rtd. Brig. Gen. Jean Damascene Kekamana and Rurangirwa Louis have been approved to challenge for Rwanda federation (FERWAFA) presidency.
FERWAFA Electoral Commission made the announcement Friday ahead of elections scheduled for 31st March 2018.
Loudly missing in the race for the top seat, currently held by Vincent Nzamwita on an interim basis, is Rwemalika Felicite, who was the sole candidate during the last elections, held on 30th December 2017.
Despite going it alone after Nzamwita stepped down, Felicite, who was gunning to become the second female head of the federation, failed to get majority votes.
Sekamana previously served as the president of Rwandan Premier League side SC Kiyovu and vice president of Bugesera FC.
He is currently the vice president of division two side Ntare FC.
Rurangirwa on the other hand is a former whistleblower and was fronted by Rwanda Referees Association (ARAF).
The Electoral Commission’s Vice President Boniface Nsabimana said;
“The two candidates have met all the electoral code requirements and they are allowed to start campaigning from March 12 until March 30, 2018.
“We have asked them to exercise professionalism and discipline during the campaign process.”
The commission also released list of candidates for Executive Committee posts.
The term of office for the president and his Executive Committee, who will be elected on the 31st, will run for four years – renewable three times.
