The Cameroon U-23 National football have been eliminated from the ongoing Afria Cup of Nations, AFCON taking place in Egypt.
Cameroon saw their dream come to an on Thursday November 15 following their 1-2 defeat to host country Egypt.
Considered as a decisive match, the boys of Rigobert Song needed just a draw to sail through to the next round of the competition.
After holding host country within the first 20 minutes in the first half, their ambition of going to the next round seem to have come to end when Egypt Mostala Mohammed opened scores at the 27th. Knowing how things will look like if they don’t react immediately, Cameroon mounted pressure and in ten minutes, Eric Ayuk equalized for team Cameroon.
From the locker room, Cameroon tried to maintain the score line but it was just for a short-leave as Mostala Mohammed double the scores for his country to make 2-1 in favour of Egypt. However, Ghana’s 2-0 win over Mali made things difficult for Cameroon as they qualified on a plus one goal advantage.
Egypy and Ghana therefore moves to the next round of the competition while Cameroon and Mali makes their way out of the competition.
Speaking shortly after the match, Rigobert Song expressed his disappointments but remain happy because his team have learned a lot.
“We disappointed for sure but we learned a lot from the tournament. Egypt is a great team and I’m happy with the way we played against them,” Song said.
