South Africa came to the U20 FIFA World Cup in Korea with high hopes of making history but two defeats out of two sees them stuck at the bottom of Group D with no point at all.
Nothing but a win would suffice for South Africa when they face group D leaders Uruguay on Saturday 27 May, 2017.
Grant Margeman’s goal on 7 minutes seemed to be sending South Africa to an easy win over a nervy Japan and had it not been for poor finishing displayed in front of goal, Amajita could have wrapped up the game in the first half.
However, Japan came back in the second half to win 2-1. Koki Ogawa and Ritsu Doan getting themselves on the score sheet for the Asians.
A penalty decision cost South Africa vital points against Italy in the second match and now they are facing an embarrassing predicament should they fail to beat Uruguay at the Incheon Stadium.
Uruguay of course are already assured of a place in the round of 16 with two wins from two and top Group D.
Italy will battle Japan for second place at the Cheonan Sports complex and this match should be an interesting prospect for the neutrals.
Both games in Group D run simultaneously starting at 13:00 CAT.
