England won the Under-20 World Cup by beating Venezuela 1-0 in the final on Sunday.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored in the first half, and goalkeeper Freddie Woodman preserved the lead by saving a second-half penalty from Adalberto Penaranda as Venezuela missed out on a first FIFA trophy.
England win was the biggest international title in the past 51 years and the first Under 20- World Cup title win.
Paul Simpson’s coached side started the match as the favourites in a pacy game played at a well packed stadium in South Korea.Calvert-Lien opened the scoring with a nice goal to give the three lions a well deserved lead.
Newcastle’s goalkeeper Freddie Woodman wasthe hero of the day as he saved a penalty to deny Adalberto Penarda in the second half as England won the tournament.
Ronaldo Lucena could have opened the scoresheet in the 16th minute of the first stanza from a swerving fre kick from 40 yards but his effort hit the post.
An impressive Woodman came to England rescue when he saved a Wuilker Fairnez effort few minutes before Calvert-Lewin on the other side delivered the all important goal .
The youngster who turns for Everton contested a long,diagonal ball behind the opponents defence having seen his first effort punched out by Venezuela goalkeeper who had a busy day in the office.
Venezuela forward Adalberto Penaranda could have slotted in an equalizer to level the matters but his effort went far wide the goal mouth.
From that point the South Americans became increasingly dangerous on counter attacks and to that point Penaranda was brought down in the box for the referee to point on the spot.
The penalty award stood but Woodman’s strong palm kept out Penaranda’s spot-kick, despite diving the wrong way.
A frantic finale saw England hang on to lift the trophy, surpassing their previous best at the Under-20 World Cup which was a third place.
