Vipers beat SC Villa Jogoo 5-3 via penalties to lift the league curtain raiser ahead of new season kick-off on Friday, August 21.
By the blow of the final whistle, the explosive encounter staged at the Nakivubo Stadium had produced no winner, with the tie heading straight to penalty shootouts.
Earlier, Jogoo failed to convert a penalty at the stroke of half time when Robert Achema blasted the ball wide off the mark on the right hand side of keeper Isma Watenga.
Villa’s Umar Kasumba was fouled by Lwaliwa Halid in the penalty. He was shown marching orders by referee Bakisula Ali for the foul.
Vipers converted all their spot kicks with man of the match Deus Bukenya, Miya Farouk, Mpande Joseph, Nkuubi Brian and William Wadri scoring.
Villa’s had successful kicks taken by Misi Katende, Katongole Henry and Kirya Ambrose, with Waibi Yeseri missing his.
