Ugandan keeper Abel Dhaira has lost his battle against abdominal cancer after he passed on on Sunday afternoon Soka25east.com can reveal.
The Ugandan goalkeeper who played for Icelandic club ÍBV, has been in and out of hospital after it was discovered that he had abdominal cancer which has affected his playing time for the club.
28 Year old Dhaira was undergoing chemotherapy treatment in the Nordic island nation.At 28 years,Abel Dhaira should have been at the prime of his footballling career but after being diagnosed he was mostly in the hospital bed battling for his life in Iceland after being diagnosed with the rare type of cancer..
This came after his club ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar started a fundraising drive where a friendly game was played on Sunday between Dhaira’s current and former teammates against a select team from the Icelandic second tier league.
Abel Dhaira has played club football in Uganda, Congo and Iceland for clubs such as Express, URA, AS Vita and ÍBV.
He made his international debut for Uganda in 2009 and competed at the 2012 CECAFA Cup, where he was hospitalized following a collision with an opposition player.
