Uganda Cranes midfilder Tony Mawejje is optimistic of even better results when his side face Togo in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifer to be played at the Namboole Stadium on Saturday.
Mawejje who regained back his place in the team has been instrumental and scored the all important goal in the famous 1-1 draw against favourites Ghana Black Stars in Kumasi and later crushed visiting Guinea 2-0 at home in Kampala.
“Togo are a descent side and we respect them but we are equally good as well especially in a time like this when we are cooking at the qualifications and gaining important points at home.We want to make out fans happy and continue with the same tempo we started with in the qualifiers”Mawejje told Soka25east.com
Uganda Cranes lead the group with 4 points but with a better goal difference than Ghana who are second with four points but with a lesser goal difference .Guinea are last in the pool.
Born in Masaka Mawejje began his career with Masaka Local Council FC in the Ugandan Super League, before moving to Kampala City Council FC in 2004.
In 2006 he was transferred to Police FC and in 2008 to Uganda Revenue Authority SC. In the spring of 2009 Mawejje joined Icelandic Premier League club ÍBV.
In 2010 ÍBV surprised Icelandic football experts by finishing 3rd in the league and securing a place in European competitions for 2011. In early 2012 he joined South African club Golden Arrows on loan.
Mawejje signed a two-year contract with the Norwegian Tippeligaen club Haugesund ahead of the 2014 season. In July 2014, after only three appearances for Haugesund, Mawejje moved to Valur on loan.
