With exactly a month to the 2017 Gabon African Cup of Nations, 1978 finalists Uganda have rolled out a comprehensive training program which includes a high profile friendly against European side Slovakia.
The match will be played Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Army Stadium, Abu Dhabi, as confirmed by the head coach of the national side “Uganda Cranes” Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic.
But before that, the team will kick-start residential training in Uganda Monday, December 19, 2017 after the mandatory medicals today (Wednesday 15) at Mulago National Referral Hospital.
They will then depart for Gabon a day after the farewell dinner on Boxing Day for a warm-up against the hosts Thursday 28th.
Cranes will then fly out to Tunisia for a three-day-camp and friendlies against the Carthage Eagles and Libya.
The final phase of the preparations will move to Dubai where they will camp for nine days and play Slovakia and the defending champions Ivory Coast in friendlies.
The Ivory Coast warm-up will be played Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at New York University Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
“We have done our part in providing matches, we just pray hard that the promised practical support will be there in time to execute the program,” Micho told Soka25east.com.
Sources close to Uganda’s football federation, FUFA intimated that the whole preparation requires up-to 8 billion Uganda money to see through.
