Uganda Cranes and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango has been named among the top 10 2016 best goalkeepers in the world according to the latest International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) ranking.
In 10th position, Onyango has been ranked ahead of Arsenal and Czech Republic goalkeeper Petr Cech and FC Barcelona’s shot stopper Ter Stegen.
It’s the first time in history a Ugandan and East African goalie is ranked amongst the best 10 in the World.
Onyango guided Uganda Cranes to the prestigious AFCON after 38years of absence, and as if that was not enough, he also led his club Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa to the PSL, Telekom Knockout and CAF Champions league titles – winning the best goalkeeper’s accolade in each occasion, and being ranked 10th best goalkeeper in 2016 wraps up a beautiful golden year he has had.
