Ugandan representatives SC Villa Jogoo were back to Mandela National stadium for the first time in over 10 years for a continental fixture. This time, the Jogoos-winners of the Uganda Cup 2014/2015 were playing Zanzibar’s JKU on Saturday afternoon in the CAF Confederation first round preliminary round, 1st leg.
The Jogoos never disappointed their fans as they put up a gallant show to win 4-0 against JKU.
SC Villa put one foot in the second round of this year’s competition after a comfortable 4-0 win over Zanzibar’s JKU at Namboole.
The hosts started well but and nearly got in front after eight minutes but Umar Kasumba headed wide from close range after a well weighed cross down the right from man of the match Godfrey Lwesibawa.
However, the deadlock was broken two minutes later by January signing Mike Ndera who made a good connection off another Lwesibawa cross.
JKU goalie Muhammad Abdurrahman needed to be at his best to prevent Sserumaga from doubling the lead at the half hour mark after a good effort.
Four minutes later, Sserumaga got his goal netting direct from a corner to send the watching Blue fans into frenzy.
The first half results were in favour of SC Villa and two minutes after the break and they continued where they left from when Kasumba scored Villa’s third goal from a beautiful Ndera cross.
SC Villa were firing from all cylinders and in the 62nd minute Lwesibawa scored the forth controlling a sublime Isaac Muleme cross before firing home past a hapless JKU goal keeper.’
SC Villa face off with JKU after two weeks but the hosts will need to score 5 goals to go through to the next round.
