By Vicent Kakooza,
Barely a week after FUFA President Moses Magogo sacked one his executives Mariam Kaliga under un clear circumstances, another member has resigned. Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) confirmed on Wednesday that Alex Luganda will not chair the federation’s legal committee effective 30th September.
In a statement posted on their website, a FUFA writes thus in part; ‘’The Chairman of the FUFA Legal Committee Alex Luganda has written to the President of FUFA notifying him that his roles at Red Cross and the Institution of Kyabazinga of Busoga Kingdom are keeping him busy that he can barely find time to serve football in that capacity’’. Luganda, who has served in FUFA for the last 9years says that he will cease to be chairman of the Legal Committee effective 30th September, 2015.
‘It is with great honour and pleasure that i write appreciating the trust and confidence you and the Executive has had in me for the services rendered as Chairman FUFA Legal Committee’’ Luganda’s letter to FUFA president adds. Although in his letter to FUFA Luganda allegedly cites tight schedules at the Red Cross and Kyabazinga of Busoga Kingdom as the reason as to why he decided to quit, sources reveal otherwise.
Sources at the federation cite unease in the way rules and regulations are being interpreted by some individuals at Mengo. As the date for the 91st FUFA ordinary general assembly nears, some football observers in the country project that other executive members may throw in the towel.
Magogo who was yet to return from Zurich, is quoted by the football’s governing body official website as accepting the lawyer’s resignation notice thus saying; ‘‘Alex served football wholeheartedly and we appreciate his contribution to the sport’’.
Luganda departs at a time when speculations of FUFA being summoned soon by the government to answer queries regarding accountability a rumour they soundly refute. ‘’We have not received any letter summoning any member of FUFA not even our president, but if we receive it, we are ready to present our side’’. FUFA vice president Justus Mugisha told journalists at the weekly press conference on Wednesday.
