Ugandan left back Shafik Batambuze has left Western Stima for 10-time Kenyan Premier League champions Tusker.

Batambuze, who has completed his third season in the Kenyan league, has signed a two-year contract and joins a Tusker outfit under reconstruction by new Ugandan coach Paul Nkata.

“I am thrilled to return to Nairobi. I haven’t had a very good season this year, but I have a strong feeling that 2016 will be my year,” Batambuze told Kpl.co.ke

Batambuze arrived in Kenya in June 2013 from Ugandan club SC Villa and joined Western Stima. He was later loaned out to Sofapaka before prematurely returning to Stima in June this year.

Batambuze explained that he terminated his contract with Sofapaka because the club wanted to loan him out to Chemelil Sugar, a move that he was not comfortable with.

Asked whether he was capable of coping with the high demands of a team of Tusker’s status, Batambuze said that he was ready for the challenge, and had been properly briefed by the club’s management.

“I have been made aware that we need to win the KPL trophy next season, and so it is clear that I will have to work very hard,” he said.

The utility man becomes the third payer to be signed by the brewers this off season after defender Collins Shivachi was captured from Sofapaka and little known midfielder Harun Nyaka, who completed his secondary school studies at Kakamega High School.

Batambuze is the son of former Uganda Cranes international defender Idd Batambuze.
