The Soldiers from Nakuru were in a ruthless mood overpowering hapless AFC Leopards with a 4-0 thrashing in a Kenya Cup (GoTV Shield) match played on Wednesday 21 at the Afraha Stadium.
The sweet victory for the Robert Matano men is a deserved atonement for their 2-0 shock loss to
Thika United in KPL over the weekend as they march to the round of eight in the oldest tournament in Kenya.
Former Muhoroni Youth striker Enos Ochieng grabbed the opener with a free header twelve minutes into the game from Joe Birgen’s cross from the right to the delight of a few Ulinzi fans who turned up for the early kick off match.
The visibly out of colors Leopards threatened to mount a comeback with striker Mike Khamati side stepping Ulinzi keeper Francis Ochieng’ in the 42nd but his final shot hit the woodwork wasting the best chance of the game for the Zdravco Logarusic side.
Kevin Anwayi who earlier missed two glorious scoring chances corrected his mistakes with another header at the stroke of half time from another Birgen’s cross from the right to double the lead heading into the breather.
Ulinzi were not done just yet and a minute into the second half Boniface Onyango picked a beautiful pass from Enos Ochieng before unleashing a left foot screamer to the amazement of Leopards keeper Lucas Indeche for the third.
New blood Duncan Ochieng tested Ulinzi keeper twice but his efforts could only count for shots on target.
John Makwata who came on for John Nairuka wrapped up the rout in the 88th minute with a beautiful right foot shot from another Enos Ochieng’ assist. Ulinzi will meet Bandari FC in the next round as they keep a live their dream for a silverware this season.
