Uganda lost its first game at the ongoing Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Mauritania on Wednesday, suffering defeat at the hands of Cameroon.
The Uganda Hippos matched their counterparts for the better part of the game but it was Sunday Junior Jang’s 31st minute goal that settled the contest.
The striker capitalised on poor marking to head home from a corner. This eventually turned out to be the decisive moment of the game.
Coach Morley Byekwaso made no changes on the team that had started in the 2-0 win against Mozambique.
The Boys were resilient from onset and kept Cameroon in check for the larger part of the game.
Richard Basangwa always troubled them with his pace from the flanks while Bobosi Byaruhanga gave good cover to the back line.
Uganda become even better after the interval when the coach made changes to bring on fresh legs.
Ivan Asaba posed trouble to the Cameroon defenders after coming on in place of Najib Yiga.
Sam Ssenyonjo who also came off the bench to replace Derrick Kakooza provided aerial presence upfront.
He nearly came close to finding the closer whem he got onto a feeble back pass but Cameron’s goalkeeper was quick to come off his line.
The best chance for the Hippos who was found unmarked in the box but his left footed attempt sailed over the crossbar.
Uganda kept pressing with the introduction of Joseph Kizza Bukenya and Ivan Eyamu who replaced Isma Mugulusi and Richard Basangwa respectively.
However, Cameroon defended resiliently to hold onto their early lead.
Uganda will now look to bounce back against hosts Mauritania in the final group game on Saturday.
