As he says measures being put in place are good
Soccer Analyst, Football Administrator and seasoned follower of Zambian football Chibulu Musonda has urged Fans and Club officials to brace themselves with knowledge and rules of the game which constantly changes, so as to minimize the continuous attacks on match officials.
Answering to questions during the hot seat interview in the Zambian Football Updates Group, Musonda said the Football Association of Zambia needed to introduce referee assessors that will bring to book erring referees during match days in the hope of improving the standard of referees in the FAZ sanctioned leagues.
During the 2017 soccer season in Zambia, coaches, players, fans, soccer analysts and a lot more expressed serious concerns on the level of officiating in the super league as well as lower leagues.
Asked by members of the group what must be done to curb this problem as the 2018 league season looms, Musonda Chibulu said that he was impressed with some blueprints being drawn by the Association, to see to it that this problem is addressed. He said continuous training is needed among match officials.
“Am informed FAZ may be taking referees to England for some training or tutors from England coming here. Am also aware that FAZ signed an agreement with Morocco which included referee development that can be utilized too,” responded Chibulu.
He added that one major criticism of Andrew Kamanga was that he had no football contacts but seing David Dein being involved , and now referee development with England and Morocco is a step in a right direction for our football in Zambia.
The Soccer analyst also noted that the incentives that the referees were being given were meager, hence called for a raise to avoid bribes.
Going forward Musonda Chibulu suggests that referees should be professionals away from football to have a strong command of their work if their standard of match officiating was to improve.
“Further, I would advocate strongly that we have referees who are professionals in other fields so that the levels of integrity are high like teacher Janny Sikazwe.” concluded Chibulu Musonda.
