TP Mazembe coach Pamphile Mihayo was on Sunday accosted by unruly fans following the team’s 1-1 draw against visiting St. Eloi Lupopo in the Vodacom Ligue 1 playoffs at Stade Fredric Kibassa, Lubumbashi Sunday.
The shameless hooligans reportedly scattered the coach’s personal effects in the process as they bitterly protested the draw that dented their titles hopes this season.
The team’s bus was equally not spared as they smashed its windows.
The club condemned the incident – terming the actions of the hooligans as “barbaric. The management also pledged support for the coach while promising unspecified action against the perpetrators.
“TP Mazembe condemns the barbaric acts of our supporters this Sunday at the Kibassa Stadium; we express solidarity with coach Mihayo and promise that severe measures will be taken against the offenders after consultations,” Fredric Kitengie, Mazembe’s General Manager said.
Mazembe, who are the defending champions of the DR Congo are placed second in the 12-team playoffs table standings after 13 matches – four points off leaders Sanga Balende, who edged Dauphin Noir 1-0 on the same day.
The Ravens are also under pressure from third and fourth placed DC Motema Pembe and AS Vita Club who are on 23 points apiece with two games at hand.
