KCCA edged Bul FC 2-1 at Philip Omondi Stadium, Kampala Wednesday to buy their title hopes one last round and deny leaders Vipers SC early celebrations.

Vipers’ family had popped the champagne at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende after thumping relegation bound Express FC 5-0 when word filtered in that Derrick Nsibambi had secured KCCA a last gasp winner to dampen their mood.

Heading into the penultimate round of the league, Vipers were on 59 points – two clear at the top of the log needed win and second placed and defending champions KCCA to draw or lose to be declared new champions.

At Kitende, red hot Dan Sserenkuma scored a hat-trick in the 45th, 49th and 57th minutes with Geoffrey Wasswa scoring in the 42nd minute and Duncan Seninde sealing the win in the 65th minute.

In Kampala, KCCA went ahead through Nsibambi in the 19th minute but Kambale’s 83rd minute equalizer for Bul threatened to bundle the hosts out of the title chase only for Nsibambi to reinstate them back with with the vital winner in the added minutes.

Vipers’ coach Miguel Da Costa did not take it lightly – insinuating that there could be forces planning to deny them the title.

“KCCA scored in a game that lasted 100 minutes. If they want to give KCCA the title, let them write to us a letter,” Miguel said.

The title chase moves to the final day of the league Saturday when the champions will be declared.
