URA buoyant of turning tables against Orlando Pirates in Kampala

First Round, 2nd leg CAF Confederations Cup
Saturday April 4, 2015

URA FC (1) Vs (2) Orlando Pirates – Mandela National stadium, Namboole

All roads lead to Mandela National stadium, Namboole where Uganda’s only remaining continental representatives URA take on South Africa’s Orlando Pirates in the CAF Confederations Cup.

With the first leg ending 2-1 in favour of the Buccaneers, the Ugandan side just needs a 1-0 victory to progress to the pre-group stage.

Coach Alex Isabirye doesn’t need introduction to this and feels his side are ready for the battle though he called upon all Ugandans to come in big numbers and give them support.

“It’s not an enviable task but we are set,” Isabirye told Kawowo Sports. “I call upon fans to come in big numbers because we’ll for sure need their support,” he added.

Though Orlando Pirates Coach declined to talk to the media on arrival at Entebbe International Airport on Thursday evening, the writing is on the wall that his side won’t sit back to defend their 2-1 first leg lead as defender Happy Jele recently said.

“We will be stronger this time around as we are going there to attack and score some away goals of our own,” Magents as he is famously known told the crew as quoted by Soccerladuma.

“Sitting back is not an option because if the game ends 1-0 then we will be knocked out. The most important thing for us is to get the away goals.”

“On a personal level I want to help the team win the match and maybe even get onto the score sheet myself. They showed they are a dangerous team and can play especially in front of their home supporters but we are well prepared,” reasoned the Bucs defender.

URA team news:
Robert Ssentongo is serving his last of the two match ban for a red card against Elgeco Plus whilst youthful striker Peter Lwasa (back), midfielder Oscar Agaba (hamstring) and defender Deogratius Othieno (Knee) are all ruled out.

Good news is the return to fitness of Frank Kalanda who missed the 2-0 win over SC Victoria University in the premier league.

The ‘Away Goal Rule’ will apply in the encounter vs URA this weekend, in accordance with competition rules 13 & 14, where after regulation time if both teams have scored the same number of goals during the two matches then the team which will have scored the greatest number of away goals shall qualify.

If the number of away goals is also the same, then the winner shall be determined by penalty kicks in accordance with FIFA’s Laws of the Game.
