Former Belgian international Antony Vanden Borre arrived in Lubumbashi, DRC Wednesday to link up with his new side TP Mazembe to a thunderous welcome.

“Even in Europe, there are not many players who receive such a welcome,” those were the words of the 29-year-old defender when he finally settled to address the press.

Vanden, formerly of Anderlecht arrived early afternoon in the DRC’s mining hub to a rousing welcome from fans, who braved a chilly weather to have a glimpse of their new star.

Wearing jersey number 18 with the name “Malela” at the back, in honor of his mother, who was born in the region, Vanden acknowledge the cheers from the sunroof of his car.

The procession led to the TPM Stadium where he briefly entertained the sizable crowd by juggling the ball.

“I did not have this image before I arrived, it makes me want to give more,” he added.
