Christopher Katongo says his Zambia recall does not mean he has an automatic place in the Chipoloplolo XI.
Katongo was recalled to the Zambia fold for the 2016 African Nations Championship (Chan) tournament in Rwanda.
This is the 2012 Africa Cup winning captain’s first time back in the team 14 months after he was axed by ex-coach Honour Janza.
“Personally I need to fight for a position despite the respect that have been given,” Katongo said.
“It is an honour. They know my quality, they know who I am and what I can do and that has given me motivation.
“Nevertheless, there will always be pressure.”
Katongo’s return has also seen the captain’s armband handed back to him for the first time since October, 2014 when he was axed from the team after Zambia’ 0-0 away draw against Niger in a 2015 Africa Cup qualifier.
The striker is one of two veterans summoned by George Lwandamia for the Chan final together with and ex-Orlando Pirates midfielder Isaac Chansa.
Katongo and Chansa are eligible to play in the Chan after joining FAZ Super League clubs Green Buffaloes and Zanaco in July, 2015 and 2014 respectively.
The Chan is a second tier Africa Cup competition exclusively for domestic league players.
