Cape Town City have signed Nigerian striker Victor Obinna Nsofor.
Obinna 30, signs Mother City from as a free agent having previously played for German club Darmstadt 98 last season.
According to Daily Post,the former Super Eagles forward played extensively in Europe over the last 12 years. In 2005, he had a spell with Chievo in Italy, after which he moved on to Inter Milan in the Serie A.
He also went on to play for Malaga in Spain, West Ham in England, Lokomotiv Moscow in Russia and MSV Duisburg and SV Darmstadt in Germany.
City boss John Comitis is happy for having been able to lure a striker of such calibre to the Mother City.
“Arguably, one of the highest players I’ve ever signed with regard to level and quality,” said the City chairman. “It shows that we take winning seriously. The arrival of Benni (McCarthy) as coach has opened Europe to Cape Town.
“Obinna will complete our attacking combinations. He’s versatile, both left and right-footed, and he’s a committed footballer.”
Obinna was part of Nigeria’s 2006 Africa Cup of Nations squad and played a prominent part in the run to the 2008 Olympic Games final, where Nigeria lost to Argentina.
