Southampton’s and Kenya Skipper Victor Wanyama has alluded to the fact that he has put the intrigues and drama that involved his transfer request early last month to rest as he hoped to give his best for Southampton in the Barclays Premier League.
Wanyama speaking to Soka25east.com exclusively at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi upon touching down touching down with the rest of the Kenyan team that beat Mauritius 2-5 in a 2018 World Cup qualifier was upbeat and determined to prove his critics wrong.
“It was a bad moment for me as a player as it was energy supping. However i am glad everything settled down and i was ready to give my best once again to Southampton but lets all remember as a footballer we all harbour dreams so my transfer request was not in bad faith or or out of disrespect for Southampton.I am glad things are working on well and our weekend win against Chelsea really motivated me”
However proded why if he will commit his future to Southampton with an extended long contract Wanyama was forthright but non commital “You know as a footballer we have agents and so its upon them to take up the issue with Southampton and make the discussions what i will do as a player will be to sign after getting the clearance from my agents who are my representatives”Wanyama told supersport.com
Wanyama had been linked to Tottenham where he was supposed to join his former manager Mauricio Pochettino but the deal fell through when hiss current Southampton manager Ronald Koeman said he was not for sale.
