Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama says the comeback victory against Tanzania has given the entire team confidence ahead of their final group game against Senegal on Monday, 1st July 2019.
Kenya came from behind to defeat Tanzania 3-2 in an Africa Cup of Nations, East Africa Derby thriller of a match to boost their chances of progression to the last 16.
Wanyama attributed the win to a massive team effort
“You know it has been difficult for us we started badly, but today we fought back. We went down and came back. We were trailing two times and we came back. We showed the fighting spirit and we showed what we are about. When everybody ticks, we are a good team” Wanyama said.
The Harambee Stars went behind just after 6 minutes with Simon Msuva tapping in a rebound.
Francis Kahata went close from distance with a decent effort. It was Michael Olunga who leveled the scores in the 39th minute with an acrobatic effort.
Tanzania responded immediately, Mbwana Samatta restored Tanzania’s lead a minute later with a well placed effort in the bottom corner.
Just after the hour Johanna Omolo rose highest to head in from a corner and draw Kenya level for a second time and then Olunga won it, taking in the ball on the edge of the box and doing the rest.
Wanyama, however said that playing against Senegal won’t be an easy task.
“The game against Senegal is a final for us. That game we will fight for everything and put everything to make sure we get something aswell because now we have confidence to go into the next match,” he added.
