Vipers Beat Villa to Assume Table Leadership in Azam Uganda Premier League:

SEKISAMBU1

Full Time: SC Villa 1 – 2 Vipers SC

Vipers Sports Club will be at the summit of the Azam Uganda Premier League table for at least 24 hours (if KCCA FC beats Police). This is after the Buikwe side continued their dominance over 16 record league champions SC Villa Jogoo on Friday by a 1-2 away win.
Former Villa player Erisa Sekisambu gave the visitors a lead just after 25 minutes when he capitalised on the home side’s poor defending to head in the second ball after goal keeper Odongo Stephen had punched back in play Farouk Miya’s disturbing shot. Miya forced Odongo to make a diving save when he connected well with Joseph Mpande’s low minus cross.
Before the goal, the Jogoos had looked more aggressive and threatening in front of the goal. Umaru Kasumba who partnered Karim Ndugwa upfront in a 4-4-2 system, saw his hard worked for shot kiss the bottom of the upright towards the 10th minute mark and Ndugwa himself failed to slot in past lonely James Alitho nine minutes later.
Few minutes later Villa’s anchor man Lwanga Tadeo was shown yellow for a foul on defender Bakaki Shafik. Bakaki almost caused problems for his side in the first 30 minutes of the game as he looked un comfortable with every clearance he made but fortunately for him Vipers ended the half on the top.
At the start of the second half Villa had to make two quick changes bringing on Second goal keeper Samson Kirya for Odongo Stephen who had picked a knock on his knee mid way first half and Robert Achema for Martin Kizza who had hardly made himself visible in the game.
However before the duo settled into the game, former KCCA FC forward William Wadri tapped in the second for the league defending champions. A work out between Miya, Mpande and Wadri left Villa’s defenders crumbling just three minutes into the half.
Achema’s introduction on to the pitch changed Villa’s style of play thus giving Kasumba enough space to operate in something that saw the hosts pull one back through Dennis Kamanzi.
Later in the game, Coach Antonio Flores made his final change taking off another ineffective wing player of the day Lwesibawa Godfrey for former JMC Hippos forward Ambrose Kirya but things remained unchanged for the blues.
On the other hand, Coach Golola Edward brought in attackers Nkuubi Brian and John Ssemazzi for goal scorers William Wadri and Erisa Sekisambu respectively before swaping defensive midfielder Keziron Kizito for Sadam Juma who also plays in the same position.
The results mean Vipers SC now tops the table by 3 points more than KCCA FC who travels to Kavumba recreation Grounds on Saturday to play Police FC.
