Senegal Women strengthened their first place contention with a second win at the ongoing women’s West African Football Union (WAFU) tournament in Sierra Leone. They beat Cape Verde 2-0 at the Bo Stadium.
Mbayang Sow gave Senegal the lead in the 38th minute to hand them a 1-0 lead at the break. On the side of the half, Mama Diop doubled the tally to all but seal maximum points for Senegal.
At the same venue, Sierra Leone played to a 0-0 draw against Guinea to add a point to the one they already have from their first match as the latter got their first point of the competition.
The second round of group A games leave Senegal top with six points on three goal difference. Sierra Leone go second with two points as Guinea below them on one point. Meanwhile Cape Verde are a the foot of the table on a point but with a smaller goal differential.
Group B fixtures continue on Friday. Mali’s clash with Liberia opens the day with Gambia’s match against Guinea Bissau wrapping day 4 action.
