AFC Leopards want to end the recent poor form in the Mashemeji Derby when they lock horns again with their arch rivals Gor Mahia tomorrow at Nyayo Stadium.

K’Ogalo have emerged victors in the past three meets, scoring eight goals in the process, a worrying trend Robert ‘The Lion’ Matano, Leopards’ new man in charge desperately wants to reverse.

‘We want to open a new chapter and this should start on Sunday,’ a tough talking Matano told goal.com.

Known for his strict discipline, Matano’s return to the den has brought some semblance of stability at the troubled den.

His last two games in charge has seen the multiple Kenyan champions score a whopping eight goals.

It started with a 7-0 thumping of National Super League side Wazito FC in the GoTV Shield quarters, before edging defending Kenyan Premier League champions Tusker FC 1-0 in the league Thursday.

The former Ulinzi Stars and Tusker FC gaffer wants to build on the momentum and will not be distracted by history.

‘If they (Gor Mahia) have been winning against us in the past, then those results are in the past,’ Matano added.

He assured fans they will not disappoint them and called on them to come out in large numbers and support them.

‘We want our fans to come and support us. We will not disappoint them,’ Matano assured.

Matano will be facing a ruthless Gor Mahia side that have won their last five matches and are gunning for a sixth on the trot.

Since the arrival of Malta-born English coach Dylan Kerr in early July, the record KPL winners have been on a roll – sweeping a side every challenge on their path.

They are currently top of the table standings on 43 points, twenty points above 13th placed Leopards.

The Sunday clash will be the 82nd between the old rivals in KPL. Ingwe hold a better head to head record with 27 wins, three more triumphs than Gor Mahia.
